Student access to sexual and reproductive health-care services

Introduction

Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), also known as Global Goal 3, emphasizes "Good health and well-being," a critical component of sustainable development. It underscores the necessity to eradicate a variety of diseases and address numerous persistent and emerging health issues. The goal is also to examine how universities manage specific conditions and diseases, supporting their academic communities. SDG 3 highlights the need for everyone to enjoy healthy lifestyles and well-being at all ages, aiming for a world free from physical and psychological diseases. This can be achieved through high-quality health care systems that offer coverage and protection for everyone.

The interplay between good health and sustainable development is recognized in the 2030 Agenda, which considers the increasing economic and social disparities, rapid urbanization, environmental and climate threats, the ongoing impact of HIV and other infectious diseases, and new challenges like noncommunicable diseases. Universal health coverage is key to achieving SDG 3, eradicating poverty, and reducing inequalities. Action is also required for global health priorities not specifically mentioned in the SDGs, such as antimicrobial resistance.

In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Health provides healthcare, public health promotion, and disease prevention. It establishes regulations for the public and private health sectors, oversees their performance, and focuses on research, academic training, and health investment. The healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia has undergone transformations, reshaping healthcare delivery in the country. Jouf University offers a Psychological Support Centre to assist students in achieving a balance of emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual well-being. The university provides numerous services, including counseling, health services, medical and emergency care, wellness resources, exercise facilities, sports, and recreation. Wellbeing is a crucial step towards good health. Students have access to various services like confidential mental health counseling, discussion groups, and online counseling options for those preferring not to meet in person. Group therapy is also available for interested students.
