SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infastructure

Introduction

Infrastructure is all about easy movement and connectivity. It’s the roads, rails, and airports that we need to trade goods, and supply food to shops and medicines to clinics. It’s the water, electricity, and internet that’s crucial to our daily lives. Investing in technology and innovation would unlock the potential for hundreds of millions of people and is the key to promoting meaningful economic growth. We need to make sure everyone — regardless of gender, age, location, etc. — has access to the infrastructure that they need — including transport systems that are safe and reliable, the internet and mobile networks, and the skills to use technology to transform their lives and their communities.

Saudi Arabia has announced a trillion-dollar pipeline of infrastructure projects aimed at diversifying the economy beyond oil and positioning the kingdom as a global hub for investment and logistics. The development agenda has created opportunities in a range of new areas such as smart cities, tourism, and clean energy.

The Infrastructure in Saudi Arabia covers the growing construction projects in different sectors, like Social Infrastructure, Transportation Infrastructure, Extraction Infrastructure, Manufacturing Infrastructure. Along with the scope of the report also it analyses the key players and the competitive landscape in the infrastructure sector in Saudi Arabia. The report also covers the impact of COVID - 19 on the market.

On the other hand, Innovation and creativity have become the buzzwords in the Gulf, and Saudi Arabia is working on cultivating these qualities among its talent to help drive its economy in the post-oil era.

JOUF university have established external collaborations with academic and industrial partners. At present, there are several on-going collaborations in place to have dynamic and robust environment in the university. In addition, we have established collaborations with international and local, academic and industrial partners to support innovation and creation at our university.

The President of the University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, inaugurated in the Hall of Ceremonies, in the presence of the Vice-Deans of the University, the Deans of the Faculties and the Deans of the Supporting Deans, the innovation strategy of Al-Jawf University. The ceremony began with the playing of the Royal Peace, followed by verses from the Holy Quran, after which Dr. Naima Al-Muwaisher, supervisor of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, reviewed the most important pillars of this plan, where she explained that the plan aims to stimulate creativity and innovation and support innovators, in line with the plans of the knowledge economy, which is one of the pillars of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, and also thanked the President of the University for his support and adoption of the culture of innovation at the university through many initiatives launched by the Center. Dr. Salem bin Mubarak Al-Anzi, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, pointed out that this strategy comes within the efforts of the Vice Rectorate to stimulate innovation among the employees of the university, and is a tributary to the strategic plans launched by the university in other fields to achieve more achievements in the field of scientific research, praising the support of the President of the University for this project.

After that, the President of the University delivered his congratulations and congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – may Allah protect him – and to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and to the royal family and the noble Saudi people; on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques assuming the reins of power in the Kingdom, stressing that the Kingdom has achieved qualitative achievements during the past seven years, asking God to preserve the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Crown Prince and preserve the Kingdom's security, prosperity and stability, He appreciated the great support enjoyed by the education sector in the Kingdom by the leadership supported by God, which has resulted in many achievements.

He then thanked all those who contributed to the preparation of this strategy, stressing the university's keenness to adopt models of innovation and innovators in order to achieve the aspirations of the leadership - supported by God - in creating a world-leading educational environment, and Dr. Alshaya called on everyone to exert more effort to achieve the gains of this plan within its time plan.

Faculty of Engineering at Al-Jouf University reviews the innovations of its students
The President of Al-Jawf University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, inaugurated today the Innovation Exhibition for the students of the College of Engineering, as part of the activities of the scientific forum that is being held this week in all the different faculties of the university. Dr. Alshaya toured the exhibition where he listened to the students about their projects in different engineering disciplines in many fields, such as renewable energy, interior designs, security and safety, expressing his happiness with the qualitative projects that the university students worked on. Dr. Alshaya explained that these projects come thanks to the distinguished infrastructure supporting research and innovation owned by the university, thanks to the great support it gives – the leadership supported by God – to research and innovation, with the aim of transforming into a knowledge economy and sustainable development through creativity and innovation. Dr. Majid Al-Zaree, Dean of the College of Engineering, explained that this exhibition comes within the efforts of the College to support innovation and creativity in the College, thanking the President of the University for sponsoring this event and supporting the efforts of the College in research and innovation.

Center For Innovation And Entrepreneurship!
A platform to nurture and incubate entrepreneurial projects by providing an incubating and stimulating university environment for creative candidates to lead and develop society.

The incubator and accelerator unit at the center works to incubate projects for a maximum period of 3 years (in the incubator) and a maximum period of 9 months (in the accelerator), in which the necessary spaces and offices are provided for the incubated startups, and provide training workshops, guidance and guidance to entrepreneurs, in addition to following up the performance of the projects incubated by the unit, and drawing conclusions that help their independence and exit from the unit. To join the incubator, you must pass the qualification course that is offered by the center to submit a feasibility study and a business plan after passing the qualification course to be studied and responded to by the center. To join the accelerator, you must pass the qualifying course, submit the feasibility study and project work plan, and analyze the SOWT to be studied and responded to by the center.

Intellectual Property Unit
The Intellectual Property Unit contributes to the dissemination of the culture of innovation and patents among the University, and the definition of topics related to innovation and patents, and the procedures for licensing them. It also offers an integrated workplace with offices for innovators and entrepreneurs. Besides striving to provide consultancy services to faculty members and researchers regarding the patent and assisting them in registering their inventions. In addition to carrying out administrative and organizational procedures with the competent authorities to register intellectual property rights, and assisting innovators and entrepreneurs in registering a patent.

Partnerships Unit
The Partnerships Unit works to build partnerships with governmental and non-governmental entities to provide support for innovation and entrepreneurship to achieve the core objectives of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center.

Administrative and Financial Affairs
The unit supervises the administrative and financial affairs of all units of the center to implement all the work of the center in order to serve the achievement of the basic objectives of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Experimental development is a systematic work, based on existing knowledge gained from research or practical experience, which is directed to the production of new materials, products or devices, to install new processes, systems and services or to improve those already produced or installed.

Contributes to highlighting the university's scientific status: Al-Jouf University Scientific Publishing Center issues 6 books and 160 scientific papers within a year
Authorship, scientific research and publishing are one of the main objectives of Al-Jouf University besides education and community service, the university has paid great attention to it, in order to develop and enrich knowledge, and to serve specialists and interested people, so the university established in 1439 AH the Scientific Center for Publishing; to be the executive organ of the Scientific Council in matters of publishing, translation and outstanding preparation of all university scientific publications, and to deliver them to the beneficiaries through various information vessels in accordance with the international specifications of publishing, and the optimal activation of the capabilities and capabilities of the university in achieving the vision of the Kingdom 2030.

The Center stems from its mission of providing distinguished research outputs that enhance the scientific role of the university and achieve participation in effective community development according to a vision based on excellence and leadership in publishing and translation of scientific production with high quality and advanced standards; to become sources of knowledge of scientific value.

The supervisor of the Scientific Publishing Center at the university, Dr. Asma Al-Anad, explained that the publishing center is responsible for the technical and academic preparation of all university publications and scientific publications, and introducing them and delivering them to the beneficiaries through various distribution channels, where the university provided it with the budget and advanced scientific techniques it needs, and provided it with distinguished cadres of faculty members and technicians to increase the quality of scientific and intellectual production of faculty members and students, through motivation, continuous follow-up and careful monitoring of their scientific efforts.

Dr. Al-Anad added that the center is one of the most important academic components in the university, because it represents the channel through which the university presents its scientific image, and highlights the movement of publishing, authorship and scientific research in it, stressing that the excellence of universities is measured by what their employees produce of scientific papers and textbooks in addition to their contributions to conferences, seminars and workshops that are issued in the form of volumes that reflect the procedures of their meanings and recommendations.

She pointed out that the center publishes the distinguished scientific production of the university in various scientific and research vessels, and its publications varied between reference books, translated books, methodological textbooks and distinguished valuable books, in addition to the university's refereed scientific journals, and its publications became accessible to researchers, students and interested locally, regionally and internationally.

During the year 1440/1441 AH, the Center issued (6) books in various scientific disciplines, (160) distinguished researches, (65) questionnaires in addition to printing strategic plans, many manuals, periodic reports, and other administrative tools, as shown in the diagram below:

The Center seeks to achieve many objectives, the most important of which are:

Highlighting the university's scientific position locally, regionally and internationally.

Motivate researchers to publish distinctive scientific publications, and activate the movement of scientific publishing authorship, investigation and translation.

Strengthen the relationship between the university and publishing houses and distinguished research and translation centers locally, regionally and internationally.

Dissemination of the production of scientific researchers inside and outside the university.

Documenting scientific and knowledge communication through the publication of valuable scientific translations, and the optimal utilization of the Center's services in the development of the University's own resources and the achievement of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
