Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 6 or Global Goal 6) refers to clean water and sanitation the aim of the goal6 is sustainable management of water resources and access to safe water and sanitation are essential for unlocking economic growth and productivity and provide significant leverage for existing investments in health and education. The natural environment e.g., forests, soils and wetlands contribute to management and regulation of water availability and water quality, strengthening the resilience of watersheds and complementing investments in physical infrastructure and institutional and regulatory arrangements for water access, use and disaster preparedness. Water shortages undercut food security and the incomes of rural farmers while improving water management makes national economies, the agriculture and food sectors more resilient to rainfall variability and able to fulfil the needs of growing population. Protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems and their biodiversity can ensure water purification and water quality standards.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia government introduces executive regulations for the protection of water resources from pollution. It aims to define standards and guidelines related to the protection of water resources from pollution, environmental requirements and controls related to water injection and dewatering, preventing pollution of water resources, and limiting its effects, and periodic monitoring and evaluation of environmental indicators related to water resources and their control. Determining the procedures and measures to be taken when people are close to exceeding the environmental standards related to water resources and determining the violations and penalties.
On the other hand, Jouf university provides different law regarding water. The objectives of the water law are to preserve, develop and protect water resources and ensure their sustainability and management. Another law is to regulate water resources’ affairs, the rights related to them and their use, and to ensure safe, clean, reliable, high-quality and competitively priced water supplies achieve equity among consumers.
