Jouf University Signs MoU with King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology to Expand Cooperation in Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer

As part of its efforts to strengthen its scientific and research presence, and to affirm its commitment to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, Jouf University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). The agreement aims to expand areas of cooperation in scientific research, development, innovation, technology transfer and localization, and the development of national human capacities.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the university by Prof. Hamed bin Manawer Al-Shammari, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, and on behalf of KACST by Prof. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Khudairi, Vice President for Sustainability and Environment.

The memorandum outlines several key objectives for cooperation between the two parties, including:

  • Supporting and strengthening collaborative research in national priority areas, particularly in sustainability and the environment.
  • Technology transfer and localization through applied research projects.
  • Knowledge and expertise exchange between researchers at Jouf University and KACST.
  • Providing access to laboratories of both institutions for researchers and students, in line with relevant regulations.

The MoU also covers important cooperation areas, such as:

  • Developing innovative membranes for water desalination and treatment.
  • Developing techniques for cultivating Al-Samah plants.
  • Developing materials and processes for carbon capture.
  • Developing materials and technologies to convert CO₂ into economically valuable products.
  • Converting olive waste into value-added products.

The signing of this MoU underscores Jouf University’s commitment to implementing its strategic plan, which prioritizes scientific research, innovation, and sustainable development. It also reflects the university’s growing role in serving society and enhancing national competitiveness. This partnership aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to build a knowledge-based society, develop national human capital, and position innovation as a key driver of the economy.

On this occasion, His Excellency the President of Jouf University, Prof. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, stated that the university views strategic partnerships with leading national institutions as a cornerstone for achieving its goals. He emphasized that the signing of this MoU with KACST represents a pioneering step in this direction. He further noted that this memorandum is not merely a framework for cooperation, but rather a launchpad for promising research and innovation projects that will enhance the efficiency of the university’s research ecosystem, open new horizons for students and researchers, and strengthen the university’s position among prestigious educational and research institutions both locally and internationally.
