Jouf University President, Prof. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, met with a number of the University’s international students in a meeting that reflects the University’s commitment to this important segment of its student community and its keenness to enhance their academic, social, and cultural experience. The meeting also provided an opportunity to engage directly with students regarding their aspirations, needs, and suggestions, contributing to the provision of an attractive and supportive university environment that enables them to achieve their academic goals and strengthens their integration into the University community.
The meeting comes as an extension of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s growing interest in attracting international students and strengthening the position of Saudi universities as leading educational destinations for students from around the world. This aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to enhance the competitiveness of the education sector, strengthen the international presence of higher education institutions, and expand the Kingdom’s scientific, cultural, and knowledge-based influence globally.
The meeting also aligns with the national direction toward developing the international education sector, increasing the attractiveness of Saudi Arabia’s academic environment, and leveraging the advanced academic, research, and infrastructure capabilities of Saudi universities to attract talented students from diverse cultures. These efforts contribute to positioning the Kingdom as a regional and international hub for education and knowledge while building sustainable scientific, cultural, and human connections with countries around the world.
During the meeting, the University President welcomed the international students, stressing that the University regards them as an integral part of its academic community. He noted that enhancing their university experience forms part of Jouf University’s broader approach to promoting diversity, academic openness, and a more inclusive and interactive educational environment that enriches the knowledge and cultural experience of all students.
Prof. Al-Shaya pointed out that attracting international students is no longer viewed solely as an educational pathway, but rather as a key enabler of academic internationalization, the expansion of cultural and knowledge exchange, and the enhancement of the international presence of Saudi universities in line with the major transformations taking place across the Kingdom.
He emphasized that international students bring significant added value to the university environment through their diverse knowledge, cultures, and experiences. Their presence enriches dialogue among students, broadens intellectual horizons, develops intercultural communication skills, and contributes to building an educational environment that is increasingly open to the world.
The University President further stressed that the University’s responsibility toward international students extends beyond delivering academic programs. It encompasses building a comprehensive university experience from the moment students join the University, including academic orientation, guidance and support, facilitating access to services, and enabling participation in student, cultural, social, and volunteer activities. These efforts are designed to enhance the quality of university life and strengthen students’ sense of belonging to the University community.
During the meeting, Prof. Al-Shaya engaged with the students regarding their experiences and observations throughout their academic journey at the University, as well as the services, programs, and initiatives that could further enhance their experience. A number of proposals aimed at developing the services provided to international students, increasing their participation in various aspects of university life, and strengthening channels of direct communication with them were also discussed.
Prof. Al-Shaya explained that Jouf University is committed to ensuring that the international student experience is academically, culturally, and personally enriching. Through this experience, students are introduced to Saudi society, its culture, and its values, while gaining first-hand insight into the Kingdom’s remarkable development and transformation. This, he noted, enables graduates to become bridges of cultural and knowledge exchange between Saudi Arabia and their home countries.
He added that international students, upon graduation and return to their countries, become part of the University’s global extension and ambassadors of the educational experience in Saudi Arabia. Through the knowledge, experiences, and memories they carry with them, they contribute to building a positive and sustainable image of Saudi education and Saudi society, giving the international student experience a dimension that goes beyond academic study to the establishment of long-term cultural and human relationships.
The University President emphasized that enhancing Jouf University’s attractiveness to international students intersects directly with the objectives of its strategic plan, particularly in raising competitiveness, improving the student experience, expanding international partnerships, enhancing academic reputation, and building a diverse and attractive educational environment. He noted that the presence of international students is an important indicator of a university’s ability to compete, engage globally, and interact effectively with the international academic community.
He also highlighted that the presence of students from multiple nationalities and cultural backgrounds enriches the academic community and provides both students and faculty members with more diverse experiences. It also promotes the values of dialogue, mutual understanding, coexistence, and cultural exchange, reinforcing the University’s civilizational and societal role alongside its academic and educational mission
Prof. Al-Shaya directed the relevant University entities to continue developing the system of services provided to international students, strengthen coordination among concerned departments, expand programs that support their academic and social integration, and benefit from their views and feedback in continuously improving their experience. These efforts aim to increase student satisfaction and maximize the positive impact of their presence within the University.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the international students expressed their appreciation to the University President for his interest and commitment to meeting with them and engaging directly with their experiences and aspirations. They also commended the educational environment and support services provided by the University, as well as the warm welcome and attention they have received since joining Jouf University. The students expressed pride in their academic experience and affirmed their commitment to serving as positive ambassadors for Jouf University and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in their home countries.
The meeting reflects Jouf University’s commitment to strengthening its presence within the international education landscape and contributing to the Kingdom’s objectives of attracting international students, enhancing the competitiveness of Saudi education, advancing the internationalization of universities, and building lasting bridges of knowledge and cultural exchange with the world.
