The Department of Software Engineering places great emphasis on advancing scientific research, fostering innovation, and developing modern technologies in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program. The department hosts a variety of research laboratories and scientific initiatives that provide a stimulating environment for researchers and students to execute pioneering projects that serve the community and contribute to knowledge development.

First: Research Laboratories

Research Laboratories

The research interests of faculty members and students are distributed across several specialized research laboratories designed to support education, training, and the production of impactful scientific research at both national and global levels.

 

1) Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics Laboratory

Overview

A specialized laboratory focused on the study of security vulnerabilities, malware analysis, intrusion detection systems, and techniques in digital forensics and incident response.

4) Robotics, Internet of Things, and Intelligent Systems Laboratory

A multidisciplinary laboratory combining software engineering, embedded systems, IoT, and robotics to develop smart solutions across multiple sectors.

Second: Major Research Projects

1) Multimodal Artificial Intelligence System for Early Cancer Detection

A project focused on developing deep learning models that analyze radiological and histopathological images to assist in early detection of common types of cancer (breast, lung, and colon), contributing to improved healthcare outcomes and digital health transformation.

 

2) Smart Agriculture System Based on the Internet of Things

A project aimed at developing intelligent greenhouse systems equipped with sensors to monitor humidity, temperature, and soil moisture, supported by autonomous control to improve water efficiency and boost agricultural productivity.

 

3) Cyber Threat Intelligence for Saudi Organizations

This project focuses on building advanced models to analyze network traffic, detect cyber-attacks, classify them, and predict future threats, thus supporting the protection of digital infrastructure for educational institutions, government agencies, and private companies.

 

4) Software Testing and Reliability Measurement Framework

A project aimed at developing a comprehensive framework for automated software testing and reliability measurement to help organizations reduce software errors and improve system performance.

 

5) Smart Campus Systems at Jouf University

A project focused on developing smart digital solutions including automated attendance systems, energy monitoring, smart laboratories, and digital maps, contributing to enhancing the student experience and supporting the transition to a smart campus.

 

6) Arabic Language Processing Projects

A set of projects focused on developing AI models for the Arabic language, including sentiment analysis, question-answering systems, educational chatbots, and automated text correction—supporting the development of high-quality Arabic digital content.
