The President of Jouf University, Prof. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, honored faculty members and researchers who contributed to obtaining patents during 2025–2026, in recognition of their scientific and research contributions and the innovative solutions they developed. These achievements reflect the University’s growing research and innovation momentum and demonstrate the ability of its academic and research talent to transform knowledge and scientific research into solutions and applications with scientific and developmental value.

The recognition took place during a meeting between the University President and researchers and innovators, attended by the University Vice Presidents, deans of colleges and supporting deanships, and faculty members. The event featured presentations of seven patents spanning scientific, technological, health, and environmental fields, reflecting the diversity of research and innovation at Jouf University, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the use of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to develop innovative solutions.

The patents presented during the meeting included:

The first patent, “An Environmentally Friendly Method for Producing Biodiesel Using Waste Olive Oil and Catalysts Derived from Olive Pulp,” was developed by Dr. Mishal bin Mufleh Al-Zaid, Dr. Ibrahim bin Hawtan Al-Suhaimi, Dr. Hassan Mohammed Ahmed, Dr. Mudathir Farouk Hussein, Dr. Mohammed Yousry Al-Sayed, Dr. Mohammed Ramadan Al-Asar, Dr. Hazem Mohammed Ali Mahran, and Dr. Tarek Ahmed Saif Al-Nasr. The patent was presented by Dr. Hassan Mohammed Ahmed.

Dr. Abdulmajeed bin Barakat Al-Fayyad also presented two patents. The first was titled “An Integrated Motion Capture System Using a Drone and Smart Sensors for Real-Time Motion Analysis in Outdoor Environments,” while the second was titled “A Device for Activating the Knee Extensor Muscles.”

The fourth patent, “A Smart Knee Rehabilitation Brace Equipped with an Integrated Electromyography Monitoring System and Microfluidic-Based Biomarker Analysis,” was developed by Dr. Saleh bin Madallah Al-Harsan, Dr. Ahmed Shawky Ali, Dr. Zainab Abdel Fattah Ali, Dr. Fatimah Ahmed Mahmoud, and Ms. Hiba Tawfiq Abu Al-Rub. The patent was presented by Dr. Saleh bin Madallah Al-Harsan.

The fifth patent, “An Innovative Image-Processing Approach for Measuring Scar Tissue Extensibility,” was developed by Dr. Zainab Abdel Fattah Ali, Dr. Sami Salim Abdelsalam, and Dr. Hala Taj Al-Sir Ahmed. The patent was presented by Dr. Zainab Abdel Fattah Ali.

In the field of smart technologies, the sixth patent, titled “An Intelligent Identity Recognition System Through Cross-Matching of Right and Left Palm Prints,” was developed by Dr. Badr bin Munif Al-Dughaifiq, Dr. Majed bin Abdullah Al-Ruwaili, Dr. Hisham bin Khalaf Al-Lahim, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulhamid Al-Nusairi, Dr. Mishari bin Dhaifallah Al-Anazi, Dr. Amjad bin Faleh Al-Sarhani, Dr. Mohammed Ezzeldin Ismail, and Dr. Ayman Mohammed Hassanein. The patent was presented by Dr. Mohammed Ezzeldin Ismail.

The presentations concluded with the seventh patent, “An Artificial Intelligence-Powered Device for Improving Microbial Culture Performance,” presented by Dr. Sami Salim Abdelsalam.

During the meeting, the researchers presented to the University President the scientific concepts underpinning their patents, the technologies and solutions they incorporate, and their potential applications, highlighting the diversity of Jouf University’s innovative research output and its capacity to connect scientific knowledge with practical needs.

Prof. Al-Shaya emphasized that Jouf University views research and innovation as key enablers for creating impact and strengthening the University’s contribution to development. He noted that securing a patent represents an important milestone in the innovation journey, while the University’s ambition extends beyond patent registration to the further development, application, and utilization of knowledge.

He stated: “We take great pride in the innovative ideas and high-quality innovations produced by Jouf University researchers. The patents achieved are the result of outstanding scientific expertise and dedicated research efforts. At the University, we are working to build an environment that stimulates research and innovation, empowers researchers, strengthens intellectual property protection, and supports the development of innovations from ideas and research into practical applications, creating scientific and developmental value, serving society and the nation, and generating sustainable impact.”

Prof. Al-Shaya added that the University’s commitment to innovation extends beyond increasing research output or registering patents. Rather, it focuses on enhancing research quality, promoting applied research, encouraging interdisciplinary integration, aligning innovations with developmental needs, and building an ecosystem that enables knowledge to be transformed into impactful solutions and products. He reaffirmed the University’s continued commitment to supporting researchers and innovators and providing the enablers necessary to strengthen their competitiveness and scientific presence.

The recognition reflects Jouf University’s continued commitment to supporting its research talent, celebrating its achievements, and fostering a culture of innovation and intellectual property across the University. It also supports the University’s direction toward moving from knowledge production to knowledge utilization, from ideas to solutions, and from scientific research to innovation and impact.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the University President honored the researchers and inventors involved in the patents, commending their scientific contributions and achievements and wishing them continued success and excellence. He reaffirmed Jouf University’s commitment to supporting and motivating research and innovation talent in ways that strengthen the University’s position within the research and innovation ecosystem and contribute to achieving its scientific and developmental objectives.
