As part of its mission to support cultural and social activities that contribute to building well-rounded student personalities and connecting them to the Kingdom’s authentic heritage, Jouf University, represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs, organized a specialized workshop on the Saudi Ardah dance as part of the 1447 AH summer program. The Ardah is one of the most significant traditional folk dances, symbolizing pride, unity, and national belonging.

The workshop targeted both university students and members of the community. Its agenda included a comprehensive introduction to the history of the Saudi Ardah and its national and social significance, an explanation of its fundamentals—such as the harmonious arrangement of rows—and a presentation of the distinctive traditional attire consisting of the thobe, shemagh, and daggered bisht (daglah), along with traditional accessories such as the sword. The roles of the performers were also covered, from the poet who recites stirring verses to the rows that chant them in rhythmic unison, synchronized with the dance movements.

A practical segment allowed participants to receive direct training in performance techniques under the supervision of specialists, in an interactive atmosphere that reflected enthusiasm and pride in national identity. This contributed to instilling values of social cohesion and belonging among participants.

His Excellency Prof. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, President of Jouf University, affirmed that organizing this workshop is part of the university’s commitment to preserving Saudi cultural heritage and strengthening its presence in the hearts of future generations. He noted that the university seeks to align with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly the “Vibrant Society” pillar, through quality activities that reflect the Kingdom’s cultural diversity and connect students to their proud history—thus reinforcing national identity, developing cultural and social skills, preserving heritage, enhancing quality of life, supporting cultural tourism, and fostering a vibrant society proud of its values and traditions.

It is worth noting that this workshop is part of the university’s strategic plan to make cultural activities an essential component of the university experience alongside its educational and research roles. The university will continue to organize programs that integrate education, skill development, national pride, and the promotion of cultural tourism in the region.

The workshop concluded with strong engagement from attendees, who expressed their appreciation for the university’s efforts in offering programs that enrich knowledge, develop skills, and revive authentic arts—solidifying Jouf University’s role as a beacon of learning and culture, and a source of pride for the region’s people.
