College of Applied Medical Sciences Organizes Awareness Activities on the Occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day

The College of Applied Medical Sciences, represented by the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, organized awareness activities in observance of International Childhood Cancer Day, as part of its community engagement and educational role in promoting health culture and raising awareness of priority health conditions.
The activities included an awareness lecture held at the College theater, in addition to educational booths organized in the College lobby, with the participation of faculty members and department students, and attended by College staff and students.
Awareness Lecture:
The lecture introduced childhood cancers, their most common types, and associated risk factors, as well as the importance of early diagnosis and its role in increasing recovery rates and improving patients’ quality of life. It also reviewed the latest laboratory diagnostic methods and highlighted the role of Clinical Laboratory Sciences in early detection and therapeutic monitoring, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between medical and awareness teams in supporting affected children and their families.
The session also addressed the psychological and social aspects associated with the disease, stressing the importance of providing a supportive environment that enhances children’s morale and contributes to improved treatment outcomes.
Educational Booths:
The awareness booths held in the College lobby included:
•    Informational displays on the most common types of childhood cancers
•    Educational materials on early warning signs
•    Guidance on prevention methods and family support
•    Distribution of awareness brochures to visitors
The booths witnessed notable engagement from students and visitors, who were given the opportunity to ask questions and obtain reliable scientific information from specialists.

Objectives and Key Messages

The event aimed to:
•    Raise community awareness about childhood cancers
•    Promote the importance of early screening and accurate diagnosis
•    Highlight the role of Clinical Laboratories in supporting the healthcare system
•    Reinforce the values of social responsibility among students
This activity is part of a series of awareness programs organized by the College in support of international health observances, reflecting its commitment to community service, health awareness promotion, and the development of a health-conscious generation that actively contributes to achieving national health development goals.
