Introduction:

Academic advising at Jouf University represents a fundamental tool for supporting students and enhancing their chances of academic and personal success. This policy aims to improve the student university experience by providing comprehensive and personalized academic advising services that focus on addressing academic and psychological challenges early on, ensuring students gain the maximum benefit from their educational journey.

Academic advising is delivered through the academic advisor, who guides students academically, socially, and personally, using a variety of methods including providing information, suggestions, counseling, discipline, training, guidance, and even teaching. Effective academic advising is considered a cornerstone of graduates’ success across different disciplines.

Scope:

This Academic Advising Policy applies to all diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate students enrolled at Jouf University.

The University also strives to implement the objectives of academic advising in a way that ensures the improvement of students’ educational experience and the development of their skills.

The University places significant importance on clarifying the responsibilities of all stakeholders, including faculty members and students, to ensure effective and fruitful collaboration. In addition, Jouf University emphasizes the importance of maintaining confidentiality and protecting students’ privacy, while committing to providing a fair and organized learning environment by enhancing the clarity of students’ rights and obligations. Through this policy, the University seeks to deliver a comprehensive educational experience that supports academic excellence and sustainable success.

Policy Implementation Procedures:

  • Appoint an advisory committee at the college level with clear duties and responsibilities.
  • Assign an academic advisor to each student.
  • Define consultation and communication hours.
  • The academic advisor assists students with registration and updates.
  • Inform all advisors and academic counselors about ethical issues such as students’ and advisors’ rights and duties and the confidentiality of information.
  • Establish clear communication channels between the academic advisor and their advisees.
  • Provide each student with an electronic file, which should serve as a primary file accessible to all concerned parties. This file contains all academic, personal, and health information.
  • Update the Academic Advising Portal and ensure access to it by faculty and students. The portal contains general information related to the Academic Advising Policy and university rules and guidelines.
  • The name and contact information of the advisor must be available to all faculty members teaching the student.
  • The academic advisor is notified of all the student’s academic movements, such as changing majors, postponing semesters, etc., through signing a form.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance.
  • Provide timely advisory and guidance support to students.
  • Provide support for students with special needs.
  • Evaluate academic advising activities and services.
