Introduction

The College Academic Advising Unit provides a supportive learning environment that enhances student success and ensures adherence to university policies and plans. The unit’s duties include coordinating with departments, assigning students to academic advisors, raising awareness of regulations, and offering practical solutions for academically at-risk students.

Tasks & Authorities

  • Supervision & Coordination: Oversee academic advising activities in the college in collaboration with heads of academic departments and relevant units to ensure quality and alignment.
  • Establishment & Activation: Establish and activate advising units for male and female students, and prepare a weekly work schedule that includes office hours and official contact details.
  • Student & Advisor Assignment: Group students in academic programs into advising cohorts and designate academic advisors for each cohort according to specialization and workload.
  • Awareness & Outreach: Run regular awareness campaigns on the importance of academic advising for students and faculty; prepare brochures and advising guides that support informed academic decisions.
  • Policy Orientation: Inform students about all university bylaws and regulations, such as the Study and Exams Regulations and Student Rights & Responsibilities, and update them on any changes.
  • Printed & Digital Materials: Design and produce booklets, flyers, and digital advising content, distributing and sharing them through official college channels.
  • Support for At-Risk Students: Create lists of academically struggling students, propose remedial solutions, and implement individualized follow-up plans to address difficulties and improve performance.
  • Regular Student Meetings: Hold periodic meetings with students to assess service quality, identify challenges, and submit recommendations in coordination with the College Deanship.
  • University Plans & Reporting: Implement university-wide advising plans at the college level, monitor execution, and submit periodic reports to the relevant committees, including performance indicators and recommendations.
