Jouf University Concludes World Antibiotic Awareness Week at the College of Pharmacy Under the Patronage of the University President, Highlighting Broad Participation that Enhances Health Awareness and Community Responsibility
Under the patronage of His Excellency the President of Jouf University, Prof. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, the College of Pharmacy concluded its activities commemorating World Antibiotic Awareness Week. The events came as part of a series of distinguished initiatives implemented by the College over an entire week, during which it presented an extensive educational and awareness program targeting various segments of society both within and outside the university. The program reflected the integrated efforts of faculty members, students, and partnering entities.
The activities benefited more than 3,100 individuals from diverse age groups. The initiative also offered 23 health and general volunteer opportunities for male and female students, with over 3,600 volunteer hours recorded, contributing to enhancing students’ skills and strengthening their community engagement. A total of 138 participants from the college and supporting entities took part, while 9 awareness campaigns were carried out to raise awareness of the dangers of antibiotic misuse.
The activities were characterized by their comprehensive nature and diverse channels for delivering health messages, including:
- School visits aimed at promoting health awareness among students of various educational levels.
- Community-wide awareness campaigns introducing the proper use of antibiotics.
- Scientific lectures delivered by specialists in pharmacy and healthcare.
- Interactive stations designed to reinforce healthy habits and scientific knowledge.
- External exhibitions offering community services and enabling direct public engagement.
These efforts reflect Jouf University’s commitment to achieving its strategic objectives, particularly in promoting public health, empowering health-related volunteerism, and supporting research and innovation in vital health fields. They also align with national initiatives aimed at reducing the risks of antimicrobial resistance, contributing to public health protection and enhancing quality of life.
His Excellency the University President, Prof. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, affirmed that the University places great emphasis on health promotion and awareness, stemming from its role in building an informed community capable of adopting safe and healthy behaviors. He noted that the initiatives and specialized programs offered by the University’s health colleges demonstrate a strong commitment to elevating societal awareness and supporting national efforts to curb the inappropriate use of antibiotics. He added: “We are proud of the outstanding efforts presented by the College of Pharmacy throughout this week, which embodied the University’s vision and mission in serving the community and contributing to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.” At the conclusion of the events, His Excellency extended his appreciation to the College of Pharmacy and its members for their efforts, reaffirming the University’s commitment to continuing distinguished programs that enhance awareness, serve the community, and contribute to preparing highly qualified health professionals capable of creating lasting impact.
