College of Applied Medical Sciences Organizes a Workshop Titled: Sickle Cell Disease: From Diagnosis to Modern Therapeutic Approaches
As part of the "Graduate Enrichment" Initiative, the College of Applied Medical Sciences at Jouf University organized a workshop entitled "Sickle Cell Disease: From Diagnosis to Modern Therapeutic Approaches." The workshop was held as part of the College's ongoing efforts to enhance scientific knowledge, enrich the professional competencies of its students and graduates, and keep pace with the latest developments in applied medical sciences.
The workshop was delivered by Ms. Amal bint Mubarak Abu Salem, a Specialist in Blood Transfusion and Hematology, who presented the latest scientific concepts related to sickle cell disease. Her presentation covered the physiological and clinical foundations of the disease, as well as the most recent therapeutic advances, contributing to the professional development of healthcare practitioners and promoting the quality of patient care.
Goals of the Workshop
The workshop focused on four main themes:
- An overview of the physiological and clinical basis of sickle cell disease.
- Laboratory diagnosis, disease detection methods, and the role of laboratory investigations in early diagnosis.
- Therapeutic and preventive management, including best practices for patient follow-up and complication prevention.
- Recent advances in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and gene therapy as two of the most promising treatment options for sickle cell disease.
This workshop is part of the series of training programs offered through the "Graduate Enrichment" Initiative, which aims to develop the scientific and professional skills of students and graduates while connecting them with the latest advancements in healthcare. The initiative enhances graduates' readiness for the labor market and supports the mission of the College of Applied Medical Sciences in preparing highly qualified national professionals capable of contributing to the advancement of the healthcare sector and achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
