Under the patronage of University President Prof. Dr. Mohammed Alshaya, the Intellectual Awareness Department and the College of Computer Sciences organized a symposium titled "Saudi Arabia’s Path to Leading Digital Transformation" on Monday, 25th Sha’ban. The event gathered a group of academics specializing in technology and artificial intelligence.
The symposium commenced with a welcoming speech by Ms. Azzah Allahim who emphasized the importance of enhancing intellectual and technological awareness amid rapid digital advancements. The symposium addressed three key themes, presented by distinguished academics from the College of Computer and Information Sciences, including:
- Dr. Menwa Alshammeri (College Vice Dean).
- Dr. Ghadah Alwakid (Intellectual Awareness Coordinator).
- Marwah Alsadun(Lecturer at the College).
First Theme: Digital Intellectual Awareness
Dr. Al-Shammari introduced the concept of digital intellectual awareness as the ability of individuals to analyze digital information and distinguish factual content from misleading material. She highlighted:
- The importance of critical thinking and protecting personal data.
- The necessity of fostering ethical practices in digital interactions.
- The risks of spreading fake news and privacy violations.
Second Theme: Technological Awareness to Enhance Productivity and Digital Safety
Ms. Al-Sadun defined technological awareness as an individual’s understanding of modern technology and their ability to use it effectively. She discussed:
- The impact of digital technology and artificial intelligence on individuals and socio-economic, cultural, and ethical dimensions.
- Leveraging technology to boost productivity and digital security.
- Ethical considerations in the context of rapid technological advancements.
Third Theme: Saudi Arabia’s Efforts to Lead in Digital Transformation
Dr Al-Wakid showcased Saudi Arabia’s achievements in this field, including:
- The Kingdom’s adoption of high standards in AI technologies across vital sectors (healthcare, education, environment).
- Developing digital infrastructure to realise Vision 2030 goals.
- National efforts to empower women in the tech sector.
Discussions and Recommendations
Attendees debated challenges posed by technology and digital ethics, as well as individuals’ responsibility to enhance their awareness and promote digital literacy. Key recommendations included:
- Leveraging international expertise while preserving Saudi cultural identity.
- Adopting practices to strengthen digital security and combat cyber threats.
The college concluded by thanking participants and speakers, reaffirming its commitment to organizing similar events to support Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation journey in alignment with Vision 2030.
