College of Pharmacy Organizes an Interactive First Aid Training Course as part of its commitment to raising health awareness and enhancing students’ role in community service, the Student Activities Committee at the College of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Tadawi Student Club, organized a training course entitled “First Aid”, with the participation and attendance of a number of students from the college.
The course was delivered by a team of female pharmacy students certified as “First Responders”.
The training program included both theoretical explanations and practical applications on how to deal with injuries and emergency cases that require rapid first-aid intervention.
The main topics covered in the course included:
- Wounds and bleeding injuries: methods to stop bleeding, clean, and dress wounds.
- Burns: identifying burn degrees and proper management of each type.
- Fractures and bone injuries: principles of initial fracture stabilization.
- Choking incidents: practical training on the Heimlich maneuver for children and adults.
- Drowning: explanation of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) steps.
- Loss of consciousness: recovery position and methods to protect the patient.
- Poisoning: proper guidance on dealing with food- or drug-related poisoning cases.
The course was distinguished by live demonstrations and hands-on practice, allowing students to directly apply the skills they learned, thereby reinforcing the practical aspect alongside the theoretical content. At the end of the event, an open discussion was held where the presenters addressed participants’ questions, enriching the learning experience and fostering active engagement.
It is worth noting that this training course was organized as part of the college’s efforts to:
Develop students’ practical skills in the field of primary healthcare.
Promote community awareness of the importance of first aid and the pharmacist’s role in this area.
Prepare student cadres capable of providing rapid intervention in emergency cases, thereby helping reduce complications and save lives.
The course successfully achieved its objectives, receiving strong interaction from participants and emphasizing the importance of continuing such training initiatives within the college.
