Course Description
This course aims to study nutraceuticals which are the hybridization of ‘Nutrition’ and ‘Pharmaceutical’. Nutraceuticals are food or an element of food or a nutrient, which gives health profits comprising advancement of health and prevention of diseases. It also explains the importance of the dietary fibers, probiotics, prebiotics, antioxidants, polyunsaturated fatty acids and other types of herbal/natural foods as nutraceuticals. The course encourages the students to use different nutraceuticals to treat several diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular, obesity, cancer, Arthritis etc. and know how nutraceuticals performs an essential role in disease prevention. Additionally, the course aims to understand the difference between nutraceuticals and dietary supplements and know that dietary supplement is a preparation intended to supplement the diet and provide nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, amino acids that may be missing or may not be consumed in sufficient quantities in person’s diet.
