Overview
The Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) program is an academic program primarily focused on pharmacology and pharmaceutical care. The specialization is centered on teaching students how to prepare and dispense medications, as well as advising patients on their proper use. The Pharm.D program covers topics such as medicinal chemistry, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, and therapeutics.
The program also includes field training in community pharmacies, hospitals, pharmaceutical factories, and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority. Through this training, students learn to handle prescriptions, provide patient care, engage in pharmaceutical manufacturing, and ensure quality control and regulatory compliance after graduation.
The duration of the Pharm.D program is six years, comprising five academic years that include three introductory field training experiences, followed by the sixth year, which is the internship year (advanced specialty training). The total credit hours for the program are 198, including 159 credit hours for coursework and 39 credit hours for introductory and advanced pharmacy training.
