Intellectual Property and Health Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: A Scientific Seminar at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, Jouf University

The College of Applied Medical Sciences organized a specialized scientific seminar titled “Intellectual Property and Health Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: New Horizons and Future Challenges”, attended by faculty members, male and female students, and a number of those interested in health innovation and modern technologies.
The seminar was moderated by Dr. Emad Mohammed Manni, the Vice Dean of the College, who opened by emphasizing the importance of promoting a culture of intellectual property in academic and health environments and its role in protecting research outputs and emerging innovations amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies in the medical field.
The seminar addressed several main themes, including the “Intellectual Property” theme presented by Dr. Sami Abdel Hamid Selim, in which he reviewed the basic concepts of intellectual property, its types, protection mechanisms, and the most prominent applications related to health practices and scientific research in academic institutions.

Dr. Ahmed Ali Torad also addressed, in the part of “Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” the major opportunities that AI technologies offer in improving the quality of healthcare, supporting clinical decision-making, and developing smart medical devices and applications, while highlighting the ethical and regulatory challenges associated with the use of these technologies and the need to align legislative frameworks to protect innovators’ rights and ensure beneficiaries’ safety.
The seminar witnessed notable interaction from the audience through interventions and scientific discussions that focused on how to translate knowledge of intellectual property into practical practices within the college, and on encouraging students in health programs to adopt innovative projects that can be registered and protected, in a way that supports the research and innovation system at the university level and contributes to enhancing the quality of health services in the community.
This seminar comes within the framework of the College of Applied Medical Sciences’ keenness to keep pace with developments in research and innovation in the age of artificial intelligence and to raise the awareness of its staff and students about the importance of protecting intellectual rights for creative products and ideas in the health field, in line with Jouf University’s orientation toward supporting a sustainable research and innovation environment that serves national development priorities.
