The College of Applied Medical Sciences at Jouf University Organizes an Awareness Lecture Entitled “Epilepsy: From Fear to Understanding and Support”

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Dr. Abdullah bin Falleh Alsrhani, the College of Applied Medical Sciences at Jouf University organized a specialized awareness lecture entitled “Epilepsy: From Fear to Understanding and Support” The lecture was delivered by Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulaziz Al-Sharif, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Health Rehabilitation. The event was held in conjunction with World Epilepsy Day on February 9, as part of the College’s ongoing efforts to promote awareness and educate students, staff, and faculty members about chronic neurological conditions.

Epilepsy Is Not the End of the Road: An Educational Lecture to Break the Stigma and Foster Community Awareness

The lecture shed light on epilepsy as a chronic neurological disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. It highlighted the different types of epileptic seizures, risk factors, early diagnostic methods, and effective treatment options available. The lecture also addressed proper first aid procedures during seizures, as well as the psychological and social aspects affecting patients and their families, aiming to dispel myths and eliminate the stigma associated with the condition.
The event was attended by several faculty members, students, and interested participants. The scientific discussions enriched the academic dialogue and provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the importance of community awareness and psychological and social support for individuals with epilepsy. It emphasized that 70% of patients can live seizure-free lives if properly diagnosed and treated.
This lecture reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to enhancing community quality of life. It strives to connect scientific knowledge with practical awareness initiatives, encouraging the adoption of a health culture based on understanding and support, and contributing to the creation of a safe and supportive environment for individuals with epilepsy and their families within the community.
