Course Description
Modern organic spectroscopy describes the four major instrumental methods used by organic chemists: UV/Vis, IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and mass spectrometry. It gives a concise introduction to the physical background of each, describing how molecules interact with electromagnetic radiation and how this information may be applied to the determination of accurate chemical structures. It also includes simple descriptions of instrumentation of all spectral analysis. The use of 1HNMR and 13CNMR spectroscopy in differentiation of structural isomers of organic compounds. The course includes full study in different fragmentation routes for different classes of organic compounds when subjected to mass spectrometric analysis. Each chapter concludes with problems to test students understanding of organic spectroscopy.
