Course Description
This course studies the practical design and interventions of interior spaces to provide basic universal access and criteria for people of all ages, throughout their lifetime, while incorporating style and a cost effective budget. Students analyze accessibility, usability and visibility features of various residential and public spaces, and learn to make informed decisions of the design features and specifications. For this purpose, the course introduces the topics of universal design (inclusive usability) that can be applied in research and practice to develop products and spaces that match the variation of users regardless of their physical characteristics and abilities. All of those investigative and analytical activities will be initiated and directed by a transactional model of person/environment relation (Performance Prediction Model).
