Abstract

Dandruff affects a large number of people throughout the world. Microsporum spp. and Nannizzia spp. are fungal
species connected with dandruff because they increase keratinocyte cytokine production (epidermal cells syn
thesizing keratin). Because dandruff is such a bothersome problem for individuals, many efforts are being made
to resolve this issue. This study focused on the synthesis of the free ligand (E)-N-(4,6-dimethy1pyrimidin-2-yl)-4-
(((2-hydroxynaphtha1en-1-yl) methylene) amino) benzenesulfonamide by reacting 1‑hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde
and amino-N-(4,6-dimethy1pyrimidin-2-yl) 4benzenesulfonamide. Its complex with Zn (II) was also bio
synthesized as a nano complex in the presence of olive seed extracts. The nano complex was characterized by
different methods such as elemental analyses, FT-IR, and SEM. The olive seeds were collected, shade-dried,
powdered, and aquas extracted. The results observed that the same MIC value of 12.5 mg/ml was recorded
for Microsporum canis and Microsporum gypseum. However, a lower MIC of 6.25 mg/ml was recorded for Nan
nizzia fulva. On the other hand, the MIC values recorded for Zn-nano complexes were lower than those recorded
for the olive seed extract. These values were recorded as 6.25 mg/ml for Microsporum canis compared with 3.12
mg/ml for both Microsporum gypseum and Nannizzia fulva. Well, a diffusion experiment was used to test the
antifungal effects of biosynthesized nano complex. It was found that combining these nano complexes with
shampoo boosts the anti-fungal impact against dandruff-causing fungi (Microsporum spp. and Nannizzia spp.).
This study demonstrates a simple, quick, and cost-effective method to bio-synthesis an effective nano-based
complex with enhanced anti-fungal capabilities against dandruff-causing fungi
