Abstract

To overcome the drawbacks of chemical and physical techniques, the iron nanocomplex was synthesized using Ocimum
basilicum L. leaf extract. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), proton nuclear magnetic resonance, carbon-
13-nuclear magnetic resonance, and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, the biosynthesized nanocomplex
was characterized. A crystallographic, spherical, evenly dispersed nanocomplex with a size of 2.01 nm was discovered to have formed, according to the data. The biosynthesized Fe-complex decreased the chemical parameters of
total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), biological oxygen demand (BOD), and chemical oxygen
demand (COD) by percentages of 98.5, 98.1, 89.2, and 97.2%, respectively. Additionally, it significantly diminished
the color of the tanning effluent (96.5 after 150 min at 1.0 g mL−1). In addition, the biosynthesized Fe-nano complex
exhibited a remarkable capacity to remove chromium ions from tanning effluent, with a removal percentage of 97.7%,
from 832.3 to 21.5 mg L−1.
