The College of Applied Medical Sciences in Qurayyat registers a patent
Continuing its tradition of scientific excellence in research, development, and innovation, the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Qurayyat has secured a patent registration with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which covers 27 countries. The patent, dated October 10, 2025, is for a smart laser device equipped with 3D imaging technology for the non-invasive assessment and measurement of lymphedema in the hand. This advanced medical innovation utilizes laser technology and artificial intelligence to assess hand swelling (lymphedema) without the need for surgery. The device features a dedicated hand-positioning base, a 3D laser scanning unit to capture the external shape, and infrared lasers to analyze blood flow and tissue. An internal intelligent system processes the data to measure size and circumference and detect any tissue changes. The compact design allows for easy use in clinics or at home, enabling precise monitoring of swelling progression over time.
