Continuing its tradition of scientific excellence in innovation and patents, the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Qurayyat has registered a patent with the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) for a group of faculty members. The patent, dated October 24, 2025, is for an innovative device titled "Smart AI-Microbiome Patch for Health Analytics." This innovative technology combines microbiology and artificial intelligence in a wearable device that allows for continuous monitoring of skin health without any surgical or laboratory intervention. The patch utilizes microscopic biosensors capable of capturing microbial and biological signals from the skin's surface. Integrated AI algorithms then analyze this data to identify any abnormal changes in the microbiome balance (dysbiosis), aiding in the early detection of skin infections, monitoring wound development, and assessing the effectiveness of topical treatments. The patch connects wirelessly to a smart application that enables real-time monitoring and analysis of the results. The design consists of four flexible layers: a protective top layer, a microelectronic layer, a highly sensitive nano-sensing layer, and a secure medical adhesive layer that ensures consistent contact with the skin. This innovation represents a new step towards smart preventative medicine, opening the door to advanced technologies in personal health monitoring, early diagnosis, and treatment follow-up based on real-time microbiome data.
