Compassion fatigue in palliative care:Exploring Its comprehensive impact on geriatric nursing well-being and care quality in end-of-life
Abstract
ABSTRACTBackground:Thisstudyexaminestheexperiencesofgeriatricnursesinpalliativecare.Itaimstounderstandhowtheseexperiencesinfluencetheirwell-beingandthequalityofcare.Methods:ConductedintheAlahsaregionofSaudiArabia,thestudyemploysqualitativemethods,utilizingin-depthinterviewswith12geriatricnurses.Theanalysisemploysathematicapproach,enrichedbyiterativereflectionswithinamultidisciplinaryresearchteam.Results:Theanalysisrevealsmainthemes:1)thedeepemotionalconnectionsbetweennursesandtheirpatients;2)thechallengesfaced,includingcompassionfatigue,highpatientmortality,andcommunicationhurdles;3)theimpactofthesechallengesonthequalityofcare,highlightingissueslikediminishedempa-thy;4)thecopingstrategiesusedbynurses,suchasselfcarepracticesandcontinuouseducation.Conclusions:Thestudyconcludesthatcopingstrategies,includingself-careandongoingprofessionaldevel-opment,arevitalforsustainingthenurses’well-beingandensuringthecontinuedprovisionofhigh-qualitycaretoOlderAdultspatients.
